Acupressure: the same points, without needles
Acupressure works the same points as acupuncture using sustained finger and thumb pressure instead of needles. Nothing pierces the skin and you stay clothed, which makes it the usual choice for anyone who will not have needles, for children, and during pregnancy where needling a particular point is not appropriate.
It is most often used for neck and shoulder tension, headache with a muscular component, nausea, and as a way of settling someone before other work. Sessions are typically shorter than an acupuncture appointment.
Acupressure is generally delivered by practitioners who are also registered in acupuncture or qualified in remedial massage — ask which, because the training behind the hands is what matters.
